Is your grocery list preventing you from losing fat?

I was at the grocery store few days ago picking up some ingredients for a diner dish I was planning to make, when an interesting situation happened.

As I was taking some frozen veggies, a friendly woman, who recognized me from the local health club, asked for my advice on frozen prepared meals she was planning to buy. You should know, those prepared frozen meals are usually highly processed food loaded with sodium and other chemicals.

I noticed that this woman was very overweight, and she mentioned that she has "tried everything" to lose the excess of body fat and always failed!

In my practice I hear about 20 people a day telling me they have ‘tried everything’ to get in shape without any results. The problem is that most of them are trying all of the wrong food by applying confusing information from the Internet or they're trying all of the fad diets that are published everywhere instead of just learning and adopting a true healthy lifestyle.

Let’s continue about a lady in the store...

While we chatted about her struggles with getting in shape, I scanned her grocery. I can remember some of the items she thought were healthy:

1.      Slim fast shakes. They are far from healthy. In fact they are actually loaded with high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and preservatives.

2.      Rice Cakes. These crunchy cakes contain pure refined starch with zero fiber, that breaks down quickly into sugar in the body, spiking insulin and promotes fat storage. It doesn't sound so good any more, correct?

3.      Protein bars. I checked the ingredient list of these so called ‘healthy’ protein bars and sure noticed: hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, and higher amount of sugar alcohols to cause digestive distress for a week!

4.      Reduced Sugar Dessert Cake. My clients know that they are loaded with artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, chemical preservatives, and many other synthetic ingredients. Stay away from them!

This woman and other people are confused and fooled by what is written on the ‘front of the box’. These false messages are leading them to believe that they are buying healthy foods. The above packages advertised variety of great sounding ideas like ‘fat free’, ‘low carb’, ‘high protein’, ‘reduced sugar ‘or ‘low cholesterol’.

However, what is in the product is always listed on the ‘back of the box’!  The ingredient list and nutrition facts reflect the real truth.
In my practice I have realized that most of people don’t know how to fully understand the ingredient list and nutrition facts; therefore they rely on the advertising claims on the front of the package to conduct them.

And here is a problem! They can’t lose weight!

You probably know by now, this woman thought she was buying a variety of healthy food for her and her family. In reality, everything she had in a shopping cart was highly processed, full of chemicals and refined ingredients. I wasn't surprised that ‘nothing has worked’ for her to lose the body fat. In fact this woman hasn't been doing anything right. She has been mislead by all of the confusing marketing in the mass media.

If you want to discover the truth about healthy diet that maximizes your metabolism, brings your hormonal balance back to normal, reduces cravings and decreases body fat faster, I will be happy to meet with you.

Choose wisely on your next grocery shopping!
