What You Can Eat Before Bed and Keep Your Belly Flat

You've probably heard that eating late will cause you to GAIN weight! For those who would like to lose weight it can be a very discouraging tactic especially after a strenuous workout.

Now I am going to clarify this misconception.  Remember, not every food that you eat past 7PM or 8PM will be automatically convert into fat and attached to your thighs or waist.

In fact, there are certain foods that you can eat as a late-night snack that will not prevent you from losing fat. Only you have to learn which foods can be eaten and which should be avoided.

Remember - In the evening always avoid dense carbs, rather consume slow-digesting high-quality protein, healthy fats or fiber.

Why? - Carbohydrate consumption increases hormone insulin, which causes fat to expand.
Instead you should eat slow digesting proteins that provide your body with a continuous flow of amino acids throughout the night to help you recover from workouts and build your muscles.

Here are some best evening options:

Protein - White Meat (not red meat) such as chicken or turkey. They digest slowly. They also have a very little affect on insulin release. These types of proteins promote the release of another good hormone, glucagon that assists with breaking down stored carbs and fat within the body to be burned for energy.

Protein - Cottage Cheese is digested over several hours. As a protein, it also stimulates glucagon release, your ‘friendly’ hormone. Eat pressed organic cottage cheese mixed with plain Greek yogurt for better consistency. Remember, the flavored yogurt had added sugars therefore not recommended for anybody who wants to lose weight.

Fiber - Green Vegetables contain almost no calories, are high in fiber, and they're very filling. When you crave at night, eat a bowl of green veggies. This snack will eliminate your craving. This works for me and my clients! Try it!

Healthy Fat & Fiber - Nuts such as almonds, pecans, walnuts and nut butter. These nuts are not only great sources of healthy fat, minerals and vitamins, but also provide the fiber necessary to control your cravings in the evening. Nuts will help you to resist chips or sweets you may have in the kitchen cabinet.

Recommended drink - Low-carb high quality protein shake could be your evening snack on days when you did a lot of workout. You should blend the time-released protein powder (mixture of casein and whey protein) with nut butter for healthy fats. It's tasty like dessert, full of great amino acids needed to nourish your tired muscles.
